MediStar is an authorized reseller of ClinixMD, a full-featured Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Designed by physicians for physicians, ClinixMD has been in use nationwide for more than 14 years. Implementing ClinixMD has been shown to enhance patient care and improve efficiency, while helping healthcare providers stay current and compliant with industry standards and regulations. The system also eliminates soaring transcription expenses, reduces paper and storage costs, and decreases malpractice exposure, thereby increasing profitability.

The ClinixMD system centralizes patient medical records and streamlines the diagnosis and treatment processes. As a result, you can more efficiently and cost-effectively manage your patients’ full clinical experience, including appointment scheduling, office visits, lab procedures, health maintenance, referrals, authorizations, and medications.

With many advanced features, ClinixMD from MediStar eliminates common errors associated with misread prescriptions, missed drug allergies, and complex drug interactions. In addition, ClinixMD meets and exceeds the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. The system eliminates time consuming searches through ICD, CPT, and HCPCS lists. With keyword search and assisted coding, your charts and billing codes will meet medical necessity requirements from regulators and reduce improper-coding denials from insurance carriers.

Like ClinixMIS that MediStar uses as the technology platform for our own medical billing services, ClinixMD is hosted on a remote server, which means you do not need to install or maintain any application software at your facility. All you need is a desktop computer with Internet Explorer, the same browser software used to access any website. To access a ClinixMD account customized for your practice, you log in through this MediStar website using a password.

Electronic Prescribing and Patient Tracking

The electronic prescribing and patient tracking features of ClinixMD provide ultimate flexibility. The PDA-based component of ClinixMD can be used anytime, anywhere — literally. Unlike other systems, ClinixMD PDA medical software is a self-contained, handheld prescribing software solution. The features, except during synchronization, do not require continuous network or Internet connection. This allows using the EHR software at the office, in the hospital, at nursing homes, at home, or on the golf course.

Easy-to-find CPT codes and cross-linked ICD-9 codes, along with on-the-spot checking of medical necessity through the Local Medicare Review Policy database, make patient tracking and electronic prescribing complete and accurate in the out-patient or in-patient environment. Both the PDA and home-office versions of ClinixMD ePrescribing software include drug database interactions and warnings. Physicians can write and print or fax prescriptions directly to pharmacies anytime, anywhere. The patient tracking software also maintains an up-to-date problem list, medication list, and allergy list for each patient. These lists give current information about patients’ clinical history and problems, while improving the accuracy of medical orders and prescriptions.

Confidentiality is of paramount importance to all of us in the healthcare industry, and at MediStar it is our first priority.

Because the ClinixMD system is based on the ASP model, it is not located at your facility. (See the Technology section below.) The software resides in a fully certified HIPAA-compliant data center that has 18-gauge steel-reinforced floors, walls, and ceilings. Power to the data center is supported by a sophisticated battery and generator system. Internet connectivity is maintained by utilizing three different major Internet Service Providers in tandem with one another. This state-of-the-art computer facility ensures that no matter what weather or external conditions exist, your data is always available, private, and secure.

ASP Technology Delivery

Excellent technology is critical to delivering superior service, and ClinixMD software is best-in-class. Like ClinixMIS that we chose as the platform for MediStar billing services, ClinixMD offers a broad range of capabilities while being robust, reliable, and secure.

ClinixMD is delivered to you through what is called an "ASP" model. This means that the system you access from your desktop computer actually resides on a remote server. The software is managed by an application service provider (ASP), a third party whose primary expertise is computer facilities management.

You access the software over a secure Internet connection from the desktop computers in your office. All you need on each of the these computers is Internet Explorer, the same browser software used to access any website.

The ASP handles all the details of operating the software, including initial installation, upgrading the software as new releases become available, real-time data backup, and providing for "hot standby" redundancy in case of hardware failure. Backup tapes are stored at a separate secure location for further redundancy. The ASP also ensures the physical security of the servers running your system.

The ClinixMD EHR system offered by MediStar is powered by software from MedicWare^®. ClinixMD is certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) and highly rated by KLAS Enterprises, a research firm focused on customer satisfaction.
